Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma mens and womens cross country teams competed today in the annual Hurricane Cross Country Festival hosted by the University of Tulsa. The Sooner teams were comprised of several athletes competing in their first collegiate meet. The womens team placed sixth in the 2K race with 141 points, while the mens team also finished sixth in the 4K race with 163 points.
Leading the mens team was freshman Jason Brown who finished with a time of 23:25 to place 25th. Head coach Todd Maycumber was enthusiastic about Browns performance.
Jason Brown will definitely help this team this year. He ran extremely well, especially considering the grueling 90-degree conditions, said Maycumber.
Pacing the womens team was junior Sinead Holt. Holt led the team by clocking a time of 13:05 to finish 21st. Also finishing well for the Sooners was senior Angie Prescott who, despite twisting her ankle, ran the rest of the meet and placed 22nd right behind Holt with a time of 13:06.
Next, the Sooners will travel to Lawrence, Kan., on Saturday, Sept. 11, for the Rimrock Invitational.
