MARTINEZ, DELOZIER LEAD SOONERS
A pair of Oklahoma natives led the Sooners last Saturday. Senior Andrea DeLozier and sophomore Jimmy Martinez both showed tremendous improvement over their previous showings.
Martinez turned in the best performance of his career as a Sooner as he finished the 8K race with a time of 26:53.82 and placed fifth overall. The time topped his previous career best of 27:06.40 that he posted at the Big 12 Championships last year.
DeLozier picked up right where she left off last year, finishing seventh overall with a time of 18:57.50. Last year she had a time of 19:23.84 and finished 20th overall in Lawrence.
Others who finished well for the women's team in last weekend's meet were Sarah Harvey who followed DeLozier with an eighth-place finish at 19:29.21, Mindy Mizell who rounded out the top 10 with a time of 19:35. Katherine Smith crossed the finish line at 19:43.86 for an 11th-place finish.
On the men's side, Sam Stalcup improved on his 58th-place finish last year (28:00.85) to place sixth this year with a time of 27:01.18.
