NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma Head Women's Basketball Coach Sherri Coale has announced the addition of Kristi Hayes to the Sooners' coaching staff. Hayes brings a tremendous amount of playing experience and coaching knowledge to the OU program. She spent last season working under Angie Lee at Iowa and the previous two years coaching at Southern Illinois-Carbondale.

"I am excited to become part of the Sooner family," said Hayes. "Coach Coale and her staff are a class act. They possess the ingredients for becoming a basketball powerhouse in the near future and I'm eager to be part of it."

As a player, Hayes was a 1995 Kodak honorable mention All-America selection and a Kodak All-District first teamer. That same season, Hayes (formerly Kinne) was voted the player of the year in the Missouri Valley Conference, named to the MVC all-tournament team and ended her career with more than 1,500 points. The 1995 Drake Bulldogs ended the season with a national ranking of No. 25. She was also a three-time all-conference and two-time all-academic selection. In 1992 she was named the Gateway Conference Freshman of the Year.

"We are super excited about the opportunity to hire someone of her experience as a player and as a coach," said Coale. "She is an outstanding person who will be a super role model for our players. She will be a tremendous asset to our staff."

Since 1991 Hayes has been involved in numerous coaching and instructional clinics including Pat Summitt's Tennessee Lady Vols summer camps and the Yes, I Can clinic in Emporia, Kan.

Hayes received her master's degree in sport administration from Southern Illinois-Carbondale in 1998 and a bachelor of arts degree in biology from Drake in May 1995. She recently married OU assistant football coach Jonathan Hayes.
