OU Wrestlers Take Two On East Coast Road Trip

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The fourth-ranked University of Oklahoma wrestling team picked up two wins today by downing Seton Hall, 36-3, in Rahway, N.J., and Hofstra, 33-4, in Hempstead, N.Y. The victories moved OU to 3-0-1 on the season and extended the its unbeaten streak to 10 straight, dating back to last season.
Against Seton Hall, OU won all but one match, seven by major decision or technical fall. The Sooners' only loss came at 133 pounds where Bo Maynes was wrestling up a weight class and dropped an 8-6 decision in overtime to Mike Settembrino.
In the second dual, OU won nine of the 10 matches. The Sooners' lone loss once again came at 133 pounds aseighth-ranked Roman Fleszar defeated Maynes by major decision, 12-3. Second-ranked Michael Lightner's match at 141 pounds was settled in the tiebreaker period for the second time in a week when he rode out eighth-ranked Jason DeBruin for the win. The Sooners' eighth-ranked Jared Frayer avenged an early season loss by defeating No. 7 Eric Schmiesing, 10-5, at 149 pounds. OU recorded three major decisions and a fall in the victory.
OU will return to action this Saturday when it hosts Fresno State and Cal Poly. The Fresno State dual begins at noon in Edmond and Cal Poly will begin at 7 p.m. at the OU Field House in Norman.
