LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team was defeated by 12th-ranked Nebraska, 15-4, 15-7, 15-6 Wednesday night at the NU Coliseum in Lincoln, Neb. The Sooners, who have lost five-straight matches, fell to 6-11 overall and 1-6 in the Big 12 Conference, while the Cornhuskers improved to 12-4 and 5-2.
The Huskers, who hit .400 for the second time in three matches, were led by junior outside hitter Nancy Meendering. The All-American recorded a match-high 15 kills with a .480 hitting percentage. Freshman Greichaly Cepero added nine kills and posted a career-best .615 hitting percentage. Outside hitters Mandy Monson and Angie Oxley contributed six kills each.
The Sooners, who hit just .143 in the match and .038 in game three, were led by junior Cathy Cook. The middle blocker, who ranks third in the nation in hitting percentage (.426), recorded eight kills and a .500 hitting clip. Senior Melissa Christman also added eight kills. Junior setter Carolyn Kittell registered a match-high 33 assists and a team-high six digs.
"Nebraska is a huge team," OU Head Coach Miles Pabst said. "The only teams that can play with them are good ball control teams that can pass well and run an offense against them. If we had passed well all night, it might have been a different game."
The Sooners return to action with the start of a four-match homestand on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. against Texas Tech at the OU Field House in Norman.
