Sooners Tied For Fifth After Second Day

Alburquerque, N.M. - The Univeristy of Oklahoma Men's Golf team ended day two of the Tucker Intercollegiate in a tie for fifth place with San Diego State after shooting a two round total of 582. The Sooners, who are five-over par, were in fourth place at one-over par after the morning round (289), but shot a four-over par (293) this afternoon at The Championship Course in Alburquerque, N.M.
Leader Brigham Young shot a 283 in both rounds to take a six-stroke lead at 566 heading into tomorrow's final round.
"BYU played incredible because it got pretty rough out there today," said OU Head Coach Gregg Grost. "I think it's far-fetched to say that we'll catch them tomorrow unless they shoot a real big number."
Cody Freeman is the top Sooner on the leaderboard after day one. Freeman, who is tied for 17th, is followed by teammates Chris James, J.D. Robertson, and John Kidwell who are all tied for 22nd after two rounds. Chris Cureton, who is competing in his first collegiate golf tournament, recovered from an opening-round of 78 to shoot a 71 for a total of 149, placing him 43rd.
"I'm not disappointed in the guys, I'm just disappointed that none of them ever really got their game going," said Grost.
Jeremy Anderson of UNLV leads the tournament with a 136, eight-under par, followed closely by Nigel Spence of Colorado State (138).
