The Championship Mindset

The Championship Mindset

6/1/2020

The Championship Mindset is not so much about winning games. It’s a way to live, it’s a way to train, it’s a way to treat people.
Patty Gasso

Oklahoma softball has been built on the principle of doing things the right way. And with that, success has followed.

18 Big 12 titles. 13 WCWS appearances. Four national championships. 65 All-Americans.

The numbers speak for themselves. OU has been the standard on the national softball scene the last two decades.

The team that changed the game forever.

It was one of those World Series that changed the game forever... They brought such an energy and such an electricity to Hall of Fame Stadium. That became the expectation and that became the norm moving forward was we were going to have packed houses and it was going to be raucous. That team really set the tone for what the game has grown and become."

The improbable story of OU's rise to college softball's pinnacle.

Oklahoma became just the second non-west coast team to win a softball national championship. The title was OU's first in any women's sport, and the team's 66 wins still stand as the most in a single season in program history.

I cannot tell you how honored I am to be the coach of this team because they're just special, and they know how to win; and they fought, and they were never afraid.

Really proud of this team. They never got down. They just fought until the end, and that's what it's about.

The Power of Three propelled the Sooners to back-to-back titles.

It was a team. We had 17 players on our roster. Everybody had to contribute in some way or the other, and they did. They bought in, and they just went for it.

The Future

A new softball facility has been approved with a proposed location at the high-visibility intersection of Jenkins and Imhoff. The new facility would double the current stadium's capacity and upgrade all team facilities to provide OU's student-athletes with a world-class experience.

It’s time. It’s needed. We’re selling things out way in advance, which is great, but how far could we go with this? How big could this sport grow? How many people would come out? I’m anxious to see that.
