NORMAN, Okla. -- The demolition of the south end zone scoreboard at Memorial Stadium has reached another phase.

Removal of the face of the scoreboard was completed last Thursday, and construction crews are now in the process of taking down the large panels on the side facing Lindsey Street.

The OU Athletics Department salvaged several elements from the face of the scoreboard and is now making them available to fans through our online auction. Currently available are the three digits which displayed OU's rushing yards.

Update from Tuesday, May 6

NORMAN, Okla. -- The south end zone scoreboard at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium is undergoing a major renovation this summer.

You might not see much change from Lindsey Street as of yet, but construction crews began dismantling the face of the scoreboard inside the stadium last week.

The crew works primarily from a scaffold suspended along the face of the board. Braving wind and whatever other elements Mother Nature throws their way, the crew is making quick work of the massive board.

To date, almost the entire face of the scoreboard has been removed. The familiar block white letters that spelled "Owen Field" are down, along with the lights that displayed the scores, time and statistics for Sooner football games for more than 10 years.

Once the current scoreboard is gone, it will be replaced by huge, completely HD video display. The new board will be in place for the first game of the 2008 season on August 30.

The OU Athletics Department has been working to salvage several elements of the old scoreboard and will make these available to Sooner fans through our official online auction. Please continue to monitor SoonerSports.com in the coming weeks for updates.
