They're Coming Back to Owen Field
NORMAN, Okla. --
Harkening back to the days of the Alumni-Varsity football game that once took place each spring at the University of Oklahoma, former Sooner players will again lace up the cleats and play on Owen Field during this year's Spring Game festivities.
But the OU stars of yesteryear won't be competing against their younger counterparts. Instead, they'll square off against each other in a flag football game prior to the start of this year's Spring Game in the first Varsity O Legends Flag Football Classic. Eighteen Sooners will return, with one team coached by legendary Oklahoma mentor Barry Switzer and the other by former All-America running back Joe Washington. The rosters include some of the biggest names in school history including Tony Casillas (1982-1985), Brian Bosworth (1984-1985), Charles Thompson (1987 &1988), Stephen Alexander ( 1994-1997), Greg Moyer (1996), Patrick Fletcher (1998-2000), Trent Smith (1999-2002), Renaldo Works (2000-03), Ryan Daniel ( 2001), Antonio Perkins (2001-2004), Wes Sims (2001-2004), Paul Thompson (2002-2003), D.J. Wolfe (2004- 2005), Jacob Gutierrez (2005-2007), Tim Lasher (1983-1986), Dan Cody (2000-2004), Bubba Moses (2002-2005), Jowahn Poteat (2002-05), Greg Dequasie (1988-1991). The Varsity O Legends Flag Football Classic will begin at 12:15 p.m., and conclude at 12:35 p.m. The Spring Game is slated for 1:15 p.m. Tickets for the Spring Game, which will include admission for the flag football game, are $5 if purchased on or before April 7. Tickets sold after that date are $10 each. Children ages five and under are admitted free of charge, as are all OU students with a valid student ID. All Spring Game seating is general admission. |
